Exploring
Roles in the ECE Community at Federal/National Levels
This week we
are to search for three federal or national organizations that appeal to our
cause. My Challenge is to aid more working families with tuition assistance for
childcare whose incomes fall between low middle levels.
1. Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund
This organization is
of course a federal program designed to assist federal employees with the cost
of childcare tuition. This agency stepped in to administer the childcare
subsidies that could be available to federal employees whose incomes are lower
than average. The funds come from pledges made during the Combined Federal
Campaign of other federal employees and private donors. This organization would
be an entity I could link with to provide childcare subsidies for any clients
that are federal employees. The method which FEEA employs for creating the fund
is just the campaign to have feds help feds. This is such a simple appeal to generate
support for a worthy campaign.
Jobs: None
available. This organization runs on the strength of volunteers. Seven to be
exact run this whole organization. At different times during the year more
volunteers are recruited to work on the various campaign initiatives going; the
scholarship fund, the CFC, and being an event volunteer to help raise funds and
educate others on the work of FEEA. The skills are to possess good
communication skills, and ability to work with other organizers in the team.
2. Child Care Aware of America
This organization is a North American program to help families
with tuition assistance, and even military families with finding childcare centers
for the placement of their children. There are childcare subsidies available
from this organization designated just for the support of military families. The
North American Child Care Aware organization also provides support and advocacy
for families with young children through the Child Care Aware Family Network
and professional development for early care professionals through their Child
Care Aware Training Academy, offering:

How Much Does Child
Care Cost?
Improving access to affordable, quality child care is
one of Child Care Aware® of America's top goals. Although child care is a
necessity to enable parents to work, the high price of child care in every
community strains household budgets and forces parents to make compromises
about the quality and safety of care they choose for their children.

3. Office of Research Services serving the National Institute
on Health
This National
program offers childcare subsidies to working families .
Effective July 1,
2013, the following changes were implemented to the NIH Subsidy Program:
* Increased the Total Adjusted Household
Income to $75,000
** Increased the Subsidy Percentages
This change allowed
more families to be served with tuition assistance.
Jobs:
There are currently
no job opportunities available with this organization.
To do research and
compile statistics would be an ideal position here .
The organizations
named above are all National /federal organizations. The purpose for them was
mainly to advocate; to offer subsidies for families; and provide information to
families through research and the collection of data. The organizations enable
child centers by providing valuable information. The organizations also seek to
provide professional development for early child care givers.
